Chaperones Confidentiality Under 16 year olds

GMC/RCGP/MDU advice re chaperones

  • Explain what needs to be done
  • Make patient aware that chaperone is available (notice in waiting room?)
  • Patientís family or friends not ideal
  • Insist on a chaperone if you feel unsafe
  • Give patient privacy to undress
  • Keep all discussion relevant
  • Avoid making personal comments or attempts at humour
  • Encourage patient to ask questions
